Chapter 1 ― Kronborg is situated near the town of Helsingør at the narrowest point of the sound between Denmark and Sweden. Kronborg is also known by many as "Elsinore," the setting of William Shakespeare's famous tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.

Chapter 20 ― The Duomo di Orvieto is a large 14th-century cathedral in Orvieto. The entire town sits perched on top of a volcanic plug.

Chapter 21 ― The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a covered double arcade formed of two glass-vaulted arcades at right angles intersecting in an octagon. The street is covered by an arching glass and cast iron roof, a popular design for nineteenth-century arcades.

Chapter 22 ― Most local remnants of Ancient Rome were destroyed long ago but not the Arch of Marcus Aurelius. Chiseled out of white marble in 163 AD, the four-way arch soared to 15 feet in height and was surmounted by an octagonal dome used to conceal the arch’s crown.

Chapter 27 ― Pozzo di San Patrizio was designed to provide water in case Orvieto was under siege. Access to the well is provided by two spiral ramps, served by two separate doors, which allowed mules to carry the water along an unobstructed path.

Chapter 40 ― The Green Monster is the nickname of the thirty-seven foot, two-inch high left field wall at Fenway Park, which is the home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.

Chapter 57 ― The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is located in the middle of Beijing, China.

Chapter 61 ― Hofburg Palace is the official seat of the Austrian President and the site of the Winter Riding School. It is where the Lipizzaner Stallions perform.

Chapter 70 ― Lake Albano is a small volcanic crater lake in the Alban Hills of Lazio, at the foot of Monte Cavo. It is twelve miles southeast of Rome.
